Cut Buddy
Draft, under legal review. The final version will replace this page before the app is publicly released.

Privacy policy

Last updated 18 October 2026. Cut Buddy is run by company name to come. If you live in Washington, Nevada or another state with a consumer health data law, our consumer health data policy also applies to you.

The short version

What we collect

Your camera, photos and voice are used on your phone only. Pictures of barcodes and labels, and anything you dictate, are not sent to us.

How we use it

To calculate your targets, plan your meals, answer your questions, show your progress, keep you safe (for example, never planning a weight-loss pace that is unsafe for you), and to understand how much the service costs to run. Nothing else.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your data or share it for advertising.

Feedback, and helping improve Buddy

Feedback. When you rate one of Buddy's replies or correct it, we keep the rating with that message and delete it when the message is deleted (after 90 days, or sooner if you delete the conversation). Corrections you choose to keep (for example, a food you don't eat) become notes in "What Buddy knows about me" or changes to your profile, which you can edit or delete.

Help improve Buddy (optional, adults only, off by default). If you turn this on, conversations you rate may be reviewed by named members of our team to improve Buddy's answers, the foods it recognises and the sources it uses. We remove your name, contact details and medication names, store these conversations without your account id, and leave out any conversation about your health. They are de-identified, and a separate code lets us delete them if you turn the setting off or delete your account. We keep them for up to 12 months. We don't use them to train AI models; if we ever want to, we'll ask you separately. People under 18, and accounts set up without numbers, can't turn this on.

How long we keep it

Your choices and rights

Children and teenagers

Cut Buddy is not for children under 13, and the app won't let anyone under 13 sign up. For users aged 13 to 17, a parent or guardian must approve before any information is shared with a coach, and we send that request to them directly. Teenagers' data is never used for advertising and never sold. There is a version of this policy for parents and guardians.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Each person can reach only their own data, enforced by the database itself. On your phone, your sign-in is kept in the iPhone's Keychain and the app is hidden in the app switcher. If a breach affects your information, we will tell you, and the authorities where required, as the law requires.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
